An album with photos of abnormal dentition

IMG_20200731_100116522Two upper left canine teeth in a 13 year old cat. The vet who sent this image to me said both the canines were solid. Interestingly it had not ever been mentioned to the owner by the previous vet! Remember….always look in the mouth if possible and safe during EVERY consultation…who knows what you will discover! If this cat were to have a dental X-ray, it would likely show that the distal canine is in fact a retained deciduous tooth.

This premolar tooth 207 has an extra root. If the tooth was not X-rayed prior to extraction then this root may be unwittingly left in mouth causing pain and a nidus for infection!
