A crown reduction and vital pulpotomy operation can be performed when the lower canine teeth are lingually displaced and therefore they are impinging on the upper palate causing trauma and pain. This is often noted when the dog is 6-8 months old. The crown of the lower canine teeth is lowered to the approximate height of the incisor teeth. A follow up x-ray should be done 6 months later. Chewing on hard substances is not recommended as this can damage the restoration.
